Botox is a treatment to smooth fine lines and wrinkles while enhancing and softening facial features. It is the single most popular cosmetic treatment performed in the United States.
Botox can dramatically soften the appearance of facial wrinkles and provide a more rested and youthful appearance.*
Our Cosmetic Self Evaluation can help you decide if Botox is the right procedure for you:
TAKE OUR SELF EVALUATIONSmooth Away Wrinkles
The stresses of daily life take their toll on the appearance of our face. Both women and men frequently complain of smile, worry, and frown lines that appear around the forehead, eyes, and mouth.
Botulinum type A (commonly known as brand names Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin) is a protein that relaxes the facial muscles that cause facial lines.
Botox treatment will not only help you look younger, but more refreshed, relaxed, and pleasant. Botox is also very popular and effective as a preventive treatment to slow down the appearance of wrinkles.
Are you bothered by wrinkles?
You may be a good candidate for Botox if you are bothered by the appearance of facial wrinkles and wish to look younger or more relaxed.
The most commonly treated areas are those areas where muscle activity most influences facial features:
Botox can also help improve the following conditions:
How Botox is Performed
Botox is administered as a small series of quick injections that are performed in the office. Ice will be used to numb the treated areas to make the injections more comfortable. The injections are described by most patient as either painless or a quick pinch. The procedure takes just a few minutes to perform.
No Downtime & No Wrinkles
There is no downtime after Botox treatment. You should expect temporary swelling and redness that usually subsides within 15 minutes. There is a slight chance of bruising. It is recommended not to touch the area for at least 4 hours and not to do any strenuous activity to avoid moving the medicine to different areas.*
Do Your Homework
A highly experienced injector is important for obtaining natural, noticeable results.
Many people think that because Botox is advertised in day spas and other non-medical offices, Botox injections are on the same level as a manicure, facial, or haircut. This could not be further from the truth! Though non-surgical, Botox injections are a medical procedure that requires specific training, knowledge, and skill to administer safely and effectively.
When selecting a provider for injectable treatments, give your decision the same level of care and scrutiny as you would for a surgical procedure. While many doctors begin advertising Botox treatments after attending a weekend course in injectables, only board certified plastic surgeons have extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, a well-developed aesthetic eye, and a surgeon’s skill and precision.
A Plastic Surgeon is The Most Skilled Injector of Botox
Whomever you choose, make sure your provider has a proven background in facial aesthetic medicine and surgery as well as training and substantial experience performing Botox injections. At many medical spas (as well as even some plastic surgery offices), Botox injections are administered by nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or general medical doctors. While these providers are likely to be competent with these procedures, their skill level, knowledge, experience — and consequently results — simply can’t compare to the expertise of a board certified plastic surgeon. Botox injections are commonly learned at weekend courses with a standardized approach that uses standardized dosages and injection points. However, each patient has unique anatomy and muscles, so a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and individualized treatment plans are needed to obtain consistently excellent and natural results. At 77 Plastic Surgery, Dr. Larry Fan wants to provide the very best results for our patients, so he insists on performing all Botox injection treatments himself. Dr. Fan has performed thousands of Botox injections, and he will help you develop a customized treatment plan designed just for you.

Turn Back The Hands of Time
After years of using our facial muscles constantly, most of us will notice expression lines that stay even when our face is at rest. With one treatment, Botox can smooth out these lines and give subtle changes by lifting the brow and softening fine lines. The effects of treatment will be seen 1-2 weeks after treatment and will last 3-4 months. Follow up treatments are recommended to maintain results.
Botox treatment is also very popular as a preventive treatment to slow down the appearance of smile, frown, and worry lines.
Dr. Fan and his team are known for their artistic eye, experience, and meticulous attention to detail. Results are always natural looking with noticeable improvement.
Actual Patient Before and After Botox Treatment.*
Lines and wrinkles develop, at least in part, from the movement of facial muscles under the skin. After years, expression lines stay even without muscle movement. The development of these wrinkles is influenced by years of sun exposure. Neuromodulators such as botulinum type A (Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin) can prevent the unwanted facial expression lines and improve or blend the wrinkles that were appearing when the muscles are at rest.
Botulinum type A (Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin) acts by calming muscle movement at the treated sites by not allowing the muscle to contract tightly. Only muscles creating wrinkles are treated.
A successful facial rejuvenation treatment plan will incorporate elements to repair all of these changes (also known as the 4 R’s):
Redrape: Redrape, lift and tighten sagging skin and support tissues: Facelift, Neck Lift, Eyelid Surgery, Brow Lift, Ultherapy
Refill: Fill lost volume: Fat Transfer, Injectable Fillers
Repair: Repair skin damage: Skin Rejuvenation, Laser Skin Resurfacing, IPL Photofacial
Relax: Relax facial muscles that cause lines: Botox, Brow Lift

There is a minor sting from the injection. This can last a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.
About 3 to 4 months. The effect begins to wears off and the muscle becomes active again with returning facial expression lines.
Some redness and swelling are expected at the treated sites, which usually resolve within 15 minutes. Occasionally, less than 5% of the time, there can be mild bruising, which could last up to 2-7 days. The skin typically feels normal and there are no unusual sensations after injection.
About one to two weeks after treatment the maximal benefit is attained and continues for a few months.
Yes. Refrain from touching the area of treatment for at least 4 hours. By pushing on the area that was treated you may cause a negative effect. Immediately after treatment, avoid lying down or yoga. These positions may make the medication move. Avoid causing inflammation/flushing in the face (like facial, sauna, exercising, tanning). Routine washing and showering is fine.
Rarely. If the neuromodulator should affect an adjacent muscle, it too may have reduced activity. This has been reported in about one percent of those treated and if this does develop, the most common change is eyelid drooping. However, any such unwanted muscle relaxation would also be temporary.
Each of these products contain the same active ingredient (botulinum type A) and are designed to address the same types of wrinkles and other cosmetic concerns. So how they are different?
The main difference lies in their formulation, which influences dosage used, how much the product spreads, and how quickly a patient might see results. For example, Botox Cosmetic is formulated with an accompanying protein, Dysport contains a smaller version of a similar protein, and Xeomin doesn’t contain an accompanying protein at all.
All three products are FDA approved and have been used safely and effectively for years. Which of the products is best for you will depend on your anatomy, your goals, and your surgeon’s recommendation.

Injectable fillers such as Juvederm Ultra, Voluma, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, Belotero, Sculptra, and Bellafill are very popular treatments used to restore lost facial volume and plump up deep folds and hollows associated with aging of the cheeks, eyes, mouth, nose, forehead, temples, and lips.
Injectable fillers are administered during a quick, in-office procedure with little-to-no downtime. Injectable fillers are commonly used before and after facelift surgery.
Fat transfer is a procedure that involves harvesting fat cells from other parts of your body and injecting them into a treatment site to increase volume. Fat transfer to the face is often performed in conjunction with a facelift to restore lost volume in the cheeks, folds around the nose and mouth, lips, and temples.

A facelift is a surgical procedure that lifts sagging skin and support tissues and restores a youthful contour to the mid and lower face.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of eyelids. Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper and lower eyelids. It is often done in conjunction with a facelift, or in some cases in place of a facelift when the main area of concern is the eyes.
A brow lift is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the forehead and eyebrows. It is different from a facelift because the facelift focuses on the mid and lower parts of the face below the eyes. A brow lift is often done in conjunction with a facelift.
Laser resurfacing is a treatment to reduce facial wrinkles, blemishes, irregularities, and scars using concentrated beams of light. Laser resurfacing of the face is often performing in conjunction with or after a facelift to repair sun damaged skin.

IPL, or intensed pulsed light, is a photofacial treatment to reduce brown spots, redness, age spots, broken blood vessels, and rosacea. IPL is often performed after a facelift to repair aging skin.

Our skin care programs involve the use of medical grade skin care products that can brighten, smoothen, and even out aging skin. Our skin care programs are frequently used to enhance the results of facelift surgery.
Ultherapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that uses ultrasound energy to firm, tighten, and lift the skin. The improvement seen after Ultherapy treatment is much more subtle and modest compared to the results of a facelift.
Ultherapy is often used for maintenance treatment after facelift surgery. Ultherapy is not a suitable replacement for a facelift; patients who desire a facelift but choose Ultherapy are seldom happy patients.
Total facial rejuvenation encompasses a comprehensive treatment plan that includes tightening loose skin, restoring lost volume, repairing sun damaged skin, and relaxing the facial muscles.
A facelift is one of the main components of total facial rejuvenation, as are eyelid surgery, brow lift surgery, fat transfer, injectable fillers, laser resurfacing, IPL photofacial, medical grade skin care, and Botox treatment.
