Procedure Steps
There are a variety of Asian facial contouring procedures available, including both non-surgical and surgical treatments.
Jawline
The jawline can be made slimmer using two options:
Nonsurgical Option: Botulinum injection (Botox)
Botox is a medicine that is injected to narrow the jaw without surgery. Botox works by shrinking one of the main jaw muscles called the masseter muscle. Botox injection is a simple, safe, and quick procedure. The results are temporary and will typically last 3-6 months. There are few side effects and no downtime required. *
Before and After (Non-Surgical Jaw Reduction with Botox)*
Surgical Option: Jaw Reduction Surgery
Jaw reduction surgery, also called jaw shaving, can narrow the jaw and help you achieve a beautiful, slim jawline. Jaw reduction surgery is an outpatient surgical procedure that is typically performed under general anesthesia. Through incisions hidden inside the mouth, the lower jawbones are shaved to produce a slimmer look. Recovery time is about 1-2 weeks. Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, and altered sensation are expected.
Chin
The chin can be made slimmer using these options:
Nonsurgical Option: Injectable fillers (Radiesse, Juvederm, Restylane)
Injectable fillers are injected deep below the skin to enhance the fullness and shape of the chin. The most popular fillers used for this purpose are Radiesse, Juvederm, and Restylane. Filler injection is a simple, safe, and quick procedure. The results are temporary and will typically last 6-12 months. There is zero to minimal downtime. Mild temporary swelling, redness, bruising, and numbness are expected for about one week. *
Surgical Options: V-Line Surgery; Genioplasty Surgery; Chin Implant Surgery
The chin can be made narrower and more pointy through a variety of surgical options, including V-Line Surgery which slims the jawline and chin together by shaving and contouring the jawline and chin bones, genioplasty surgery which contours the chin bone, and chin implant surgery which enhances the chin using an implant. The results are permanent from these procedures. Recovery is about 1-2 weeks. Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, and altered sensation are expected.*

Cheeks
The cheeks can be contoured in a variety of ways:
Injectable Fillers: The cheekbones can be made fuller and higher (“apple cheeks”) using injectable fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, and Radiesse. Filler injection is a simple, safe, and quick procedure. The results are temporary and will typically last 6-12 months. There is zero to minimal downtime. Mild temporary swelling, redness, bruising, and numbness are expected for about one week.
Cheek Reduction Surgery (Zygoma Reduction): Cheekbones that are overly wide can be made more narrow with cheek reduction surgery. Cheek reduction surgery is an outpatient surgical procedure that is typically performed under general anesthesia. Through incisions hidden inside the mouth and in the hairline, the cheekbones are narrowed to produce a slimmer look. Recovery time is about 1-2 weeks. Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, and altered sensation are expected.
Buccal Fat Removal: Cheeks that are overly full and chubby can be made slimmer with buccal fat removal. Buccal fat removal is a short office procedure that is typically performed in the office under local anesthesia. Through incisions hidden inside the mouth, a small amount of cheek fat is removed to produce a slimmer face. There is minimal downtime. Temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness are expected.
Nose
The nose can be enhanced with Asian rhinoplasty surgery or non-surgically with non-surgical Asian rhinoplasty.
Eyes
The eyes can be made brighter and more beautiful with Asian Eyelid Surgery.
Lower eyelid hollows can be softened using injectable fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm.
Skin
The skin can be made smoother and more even and glowing through our skin care programs, esthetician services, and skin resurfacing treatments.
There is no to minimal downtime for non-surgical treatments, although temporary mild swelling and bruising can be expected for injectable fillers.
Surgical facial contouring treatments can be associated with a medium length recovery period. Please contact our office for additional details.

A Younger and More Beautiful You
This is a popular question because there are many cutting edge procedures being performed in Korea and treatment is often less costly in Asia.
Here in the US, standards of care, education, safety, and products are extremely rigorous so you can feel confident that you are receiving the best quality of care when you choose a highly qualified expert like Dr. Fan.
In Asia, unfortunately, standards of care are more lax. Anybody is allowed to perform cosmetic surgery, so there are many poorly qualified practitioners (ie. non-plastic surgeons) marketing and practicing cosmetic surgery primarily for monetary gain. In addition, experimental treatments (marketed as the “newest” or “latest and greatest” treatment) are routinely performed on unsuspecting patients who are never informed of the potential risks and complications. Lastly, counterfeit products, medicines, and machines are rampant in Asia. These counterfeit products are not properly tested to meet safety and effectiveness standards, so buyer beware. We have seen patients who were treated abroad and told that they were getting a safe product only to find that they were injected with liquid silicone with devastating consequences.
Although there are many good and reputable surgeons in Asia, the lax environment produces the end result of many patients being unnecessarily harmed and botched. Once harmed, patients have little recourse.
Asian eyelid surgery, also commonly known as the Asian double eyelid procedure or Asian blepharoplasty, is a procedure that creates a naturally looking fold that enhances the beauty of the Asian eye.
Asian rhinoplasty is a procedure performed specifically for Asian patients to reshape the nose to improve facial balance and appearance.
Non-Surgical Asian rhinoplasty is a simple, quick, in-office treatment that enhances the shape of the Asian nose without surgery using injectable fillers.

Injectable fillers such as Juvederm Ultra, Voluma, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, Belotero, Sculptra, and Bellafill are very popular treatments used to restore lost facial volume and plump up deep folds and hollows associated with aging of the cheeks, eyes, mouth, nose, forehead, temples, and lips. Injectable fillers are administered during a quick, in-office procedure with no to little downtime. Injectable fillers are commonly used before and after facelift surgery.
Laser resurfacing is a treatment to reduce facial wrinkles, blemishes, irregularities, and scars using concentrated beams of light. Laser resurfacing of the face is often performing in conjunction with or after a facelift to repair sun damaged skin.
IPL, or intensed pulsed light, is a photofacial treatment to reduce brown spots, redness, age spots, broken blood vessels, and rosacea. IPL is often performed after a facelift to repair aging skin.

Our skin care programs involve the use of medical grade skin care products that can brighten, smoothen, and even out aging skin. Our skin care programs are frequently used to enhance the results of facelift surgery.
Botox, or botulinum, is a very popular treatment that reduces and prevents the development of facial wrinkles caused by facial muscles. Botox is most commonly used to treat unwanted lines across the forehead, the “11s” between the eyebrows, and the crow’s feet next to the eyes. Botox is administered as a quick, in-office injection with no downtime. Botox is commonly used as a maintenance treatment before and after facelift surgery.
