What is AGNES?

Developed by Dr. Gun Young Ahn, a Korean dermatologist, Agnes uses the stable and effective technology of radiofrequency to specifically target a variety of tissue types and depths. The depth of the needle has been precisely designed to target the specific structure.  The needles have an insulated coating which protects other structures in the skin as well as the epidermis, minimizing downtime.  It pinpoints under eye bags, which often suggest age and fatigue. A scientifically researched and designed micro-insulated needle is inserted into the fat pad and the RF energy is delivered to permanently reduce the fat. The minimally invasive treatment only requires local anesthesia.

Which conditions can be treated?

Agnes offers beneficial treatments by using a tissue specific needle to treat fat under the chin, eyes, jowls, and along the jawline with very little downtime. Not only does it remove the fat, it tightens the skin. AGNES also offers permanent solutions for a variety of skin problems including cystic acne, inflammatory acne, blackheads, large pores and syringomas.

How are treatments done?

Agnes procedures depend on targeted tissue. Many treatments can be performed with only numbing cream applied 20 minutes before the procedure.  The treatment is relatively painless. In the case of eye bag treatments and deeper treatments, local anesthetic injections may be used in addition to the numbing cream. In the case of active acne treatments you may be advised to return in 24 to 48 hours for some light bipolar RF treatment plus further drainage of any remaining sebum/pus.

For the actual treatment; the appropriate needle is inserted into the acne follicle, wrinkle, or fat pad and the machine is triggered with a precise number of pulses depending on the area being treated.

What is recovery like?

For acne, syringomas and blackheads, the side effects are mild redness for 1-3 days. This can usually be covered with some foundation or tinted moisturizer. No specific aftercare is needed for these procedures.

For deep lines and eye bags the downtime is between 3-7 days with possible swelling and redness followed by another week of less severe redness. It is possible to do lighter treatments with less downtime but more treatments may be needed. The redness and swelling may be concealed by foundation at day 4. Sometimes with heavy treatments, numbness and hypersensitivity may be experienced for up to 4 weeks.

How many treatments will I need?

Benefits from a single treatment may be permanent but this does not mean you can treat everything in a single treatment. 2 or 3 treatments may be needed to get the best result.  Further treatments should be 3 to 6 months after the initial treatment, sooner (6 weeks) in the case of active acne.  Results vary based on individual circumstances.

When will I see results?

For deep wrinkles and eye bags, about 1-2 weeks after you have mostly recovered, the area may actually look “worse” than it did before the procedure, which is normal. Most of the benefit appears over the coming months as new collagen is deposited under the skin and the skin begins to remodel its structure. For the treatment of eye bags, it will take 2-6 months for the fat cells to be removed by the body’s macrophages.

For acne, comedones, blackheads, and syringomas the benefits may be within a few weeks. Similarly to wrinkles it may take up to 6 months to complete remodeling and remove damaged tissue.

Is it painful?

The pain level differs from patient to patient. An anesthetic cream or local anesthesia injections will be administered depending on the area to provide the patient with the most comfort during the treatment.
